TELL GOV RAUNER TO SIGN THE ILLINOIS GUN TRAFFICKING BILL SB 337
Let’s flood Gov Rauner’s mailbox with postcards asking him to sign IL SB337 Combating Illegal Trafficking of Guns Act.
On July 16, 2018, Governor Rauner announced that he intends to veto SB337 when it reaches his desk. Our hope is to send hundreds to Governor Rauner’s mailbox urging him to sign, rather than veto, the anti-gun trafficking bill -- SB 337.
SB337 was written by a bipartisan team of legislators and passed the Illinois General Assembly with very strong support from both Republicans and Democrats. It will dramatically decrease the flow of illegal firearms into Illinois communities. Governor Rauner knows this, but, still he intends to veto the bill, thereby sacrificing the safety of the people of Illinois for the sake of his own political goals.
As a coalition of 155 organizations and hundreds of thousands of members, the Illinois Gun Violence Prevention (ILGVP) Coalition has the numbers to shine a spotlight on the disconnect between Rauner’s stated, legislative intentions and the desire of the people of Illinois to hold gun dealers accountable for their business practices.
The National Youth Art Movement Against Gun Violence (NYAM), a member of the ILGVP Coalition, worked with Chicago youth and their mentors to create seven postcard designs for this campaign. All of their designs are labeled NYAM. A portion of the proceeds from each postcard purchase goes to the artist who designed it and the National Youth Art Movement Against Gun Violence (NYAM).
On October 15th, 2018, Get Loud Now, Gather Activism, NYAM, and the ILGVP Coalition collaborated on a Chicago Ideas Week Lab event. The lab participants, all passionate about gun violence prevention, workshopped several more designs for this campaign. They are each labeled CIW Lab.
